This presentation was created by Wright State University. It provides information on the “Solar Tour” of their campus, focusing on their newly installed solar thermal hot water heating system for the campus swimming pool. Wright State University is committed to renewable energy, and has a number of various sources on campus. In 2010, the campus installed a solar thermal hot water heating system for their Olympic sized swimming pool on campus. They chose to use solar thermal because it is cheaper than solar electric and can achieve efficiencies 50% higher than solar electric. The campus is saving 20% on their pool heating bill per year, and should have a payback period of 25 years.
