Understanding Federal Tax Incentives for Residential Solar Thermal Systems (2009)
Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on April 9, 2015This brochure was created by the Beckett Corporation, and explains how consumers can utilize three different tax credits in the United States to install a solar thermal hot water heating system in their home. More information on solar thermal incentives can be found here.
The first tax credit discussed was created by the Energy Improvement and Extension Act of 2008, and offers homeowners a 30% credit on the cost of the system, and lasts through 2016. The Non-Business Energy Property Credit is also a 30% tax credit and can be used for any energy efficiency improvements, of which solar water heating applies.
Lastly, the New Energy Efficient Home Credit offers a max credit of $2,000 to any installation on a home that creates a 50% heating and cooling relative energy cost saving, and solar water heating qualifies.
