This presentation, prepared by Leonardo Energy, describes and discusses ways to improve solar thermal storage technologies, notably melted salt and concrete storage. The improvement of these technologies would allow a better profit of the energy produced by power plants.
Melted salt demands high investments costs, while concrete storage, being less expensive, is not yet that developed. Concrete thermal storage presents low thermal conductivity. Once the heat transfer of concrete storage has been improved, it is believed that upfront investment in power plants could benefit from a reduction of 7% to 10%.
