This report was written by Jean Cariou of the Global Energy Network Institute. It is a comprehensive study of the technology, the economics, and the feasibility of large scale solar thermal installations. According to the report, solar thermal water heating has the potential to reduce electricity use and subsequent energy costs by up to 75% annually. The author suggests that only certain nations located near the equator have the right conditions for large scale solar thermal installations, and that those in less well situated climes should take advantage of hybrid thermal and photovoltaic systems for the hot water heating needs.
