Solar Thermal Integration into a District Heated Small House (2014)
Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on October 14, 2014The VTT Technical Research Center of Finland presented a study on solar thermal integration into a district heated small house at the 14th International Symposium on District Heating and Cooling which took place in Stockholm from 7 to 9 September. The purpose of this study is to analyse the results of a simulation model of a district heating substation on the energy savings in Domestic Hot Water (DHW) heating and space heating. For this project, researchers used the energy simulation software IDA-ICE . The simulation was carried out over a period of one year in typical Finnish weather conditions. The results show that solar collectors can contribute to reducing almost 50% of the energy used for DHW heating while the energy saved on space heating is not significant.
