Solar Thermal Energy. An Industry Report (2008)
Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on May 25, 2011This is a document providing information and comparisons between solar thermal energy and photovoltaics (PV) or fossil energy, like coal, on an industrial level. The document explores the successes and challenges faced by some major EU companies in this business area.
After a presentation about the main differences between PV and solar thermal energy and some developments concerning the coal energy and its environment footprint and price, the document offers a view on the major solar thermal players (ABENGOA, ACCIONA, AUSRA etc.) and most developed countries in this area (Spain, Australia, USA), including reasons why they remain leaders in the market.
At last, the document mentions two important aspects to be improved in the coming years: technical challenges and the land requirements.
