Solar Thermal Design: Research, Design and Installation of a Solar Hot Water System for Redwood National Park (2003)

This research abstract was written by Andrew Sorter et. al. of Humboldt State University. It covers the research, design, and installation for a solar hot water heating system in California’s Redwood National Park.

The goal of the system was to replace the electric hot water heating system that was currently in use at Redwood. After collecting and analyzing the onsite data regarding water usage, sun availability, and energy consumption, the research team made their final recommendations for installation. The team ended up installation two separate solar thermal systems in the park, and came in under budget before the energy cost savings were even factored in.
