Solar Thermal Billing Program in Florida (2006)

This report was released by the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC) in 2006. It breaks down the Lakeland Electric’s solar thermal billing program in Florida. In 1996, Lakeland Electric conducted a solar water heating research study that obtained positive results through phone surveys. In 1997, they implemented a solar thermal system and charted billing, benefits and workings of the system. It mentions the benefits of the program to the solar contractors, the customers and the utilities. With this program, it’s estimated that the payback is about 7 percent annual return on investment, based on the total cost of an installed system. The system payback is considered to be about 12.6 years on average.
