Solar Thermal Air Conditioner: Method Of Operation (2010)
Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on June 20, 2015This diagram was created by IceSolair. The diagram explains the methods and modes of how solar thermal air conditioning systems operate, it also looks at the various parts and technologies that allow the system to work, and it shows how the system works in reverse for heating purposes.
The solar thermal collector absorbs and transfers the heat of the sun, which moves refrigerant through the outdoor parts of the unit, turning the coolant into a high pressure liquid. This then passes through the heat exchanger, which achieves an effective cooling effect through the indoor unit. In the reverse fashion for heating, the coolant is turned into a low pressure liquid. By removing the need for electricity from the grid, the system has a positive environmental and cost impact.
