Solar Chiller: Zero-net energy for building air conditioning in hot climates (2007)
Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on May 24, 2015This fact sheet was created by Escola Politécnica da Universidade de São Paulo. It provides information on solar thermal air conditioning strategies and potential programs in Brazil.
The objective of this research was to determine how sustainable air condition systems in office buildings can achieve net zero energy. Three different simulations were tested, each utilizing different architectural structures and equipment efficiency. The results of the tests led the researchers to the conclusion that net zero energy was only possible in the winter months, and that further technological advances in solar thermal technology were necessary to implement its use on a large scale.
Such simulations as the one in this fact sheet are necessary to determine the best practices for deployment of solar thermal.
