Research Priorities for Solar Thermal Energy (2012)
Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on July 9, 2012This presentation - given by ESTTPâs Dr. Wim van Helden at the 2012 Renewable District Heating and Cooling Conference - sets out key Research and Development priorities for the solar thermal industry in the next decade. Challenges still remain to reduce investment costs, further increase solar fraction and further develop solar thermal technology.
The presentation lists 3 cross sections for R+D priorities to overcome these: components, applications and non-technological areas. For each, the presentation identifies where the specific potential is for improvement, and how such improvement should be conducted for optimal effect. Undertaking these improvements efficiently will help to position solar thermal energy as a mainstream option for heating and cooling in Europe.
