Regional Workshop Report for the Transformation and Strengthening of Solar Water Heating in the Mediterranean

 

This report summarises the second regional meeting held as part of the Global Solar Water Heating Market Transformation and Strengthening Initiative (GSWH Project). The meeting was held from 18-19 April 2012 in Beirut, Lebanon. The event was coordinated by the Renewable Energy Division of OME in cooperation with the Lebanese Center for Energy Conservation, UNEP and UNDP. It gathered 50 experts from 10 Mediterranean countries for knowledge sharing across the two day programme. This report summarises the presentations made across the opening and thematic sessions.

The four thematic sessions focused on

  • Policy and regulatory measures for boosting solar thermal use
  • Role and benefits of industry associations
  • Importance of standards and testing
  • Solar heat for industrial purposes.

The report also gives a summary of the Q&A sessions that followed the different speeches, and an evaluation of the workshop’s success.
