Pilot Project for the Installation of Solar Collectors on Easter Island (2006/2007)
Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on July 23, 2009These two reports provide a technical and economic evaluation of a Pilot Project on Easter Island, integrated in the Chile National Plan to promote the use of Solar Collectors. The Easter Island was selected as pilot region for the implementation of this national plan due to its favourable weather conditions. The preliminary conclusions of this initial report confirm the potential of solar thermal energy for sanitary water heating in Chile. The first document from 2006 summarises the achievements of the first mission of consortium experts to the Easter Island, to make the first ground analysis of the situation with a view to properly plan the implementation of the project. An overall description of the project is provided, together with the buildings considered to install the equipment and the kind of solar collectors selected, according to technical, economic and environmental criteria. The second document from 2007 is an update of the report from 2006, with updated figures and data on the development of the Easter Island project.
