This 2009 paper looks into ways on how to improve the efficiency of monitoring the performance of large-scale solar thermal systems. Through the development of an âintelligentâ monitoring system, the researchers aim to respond to demands for a guarantee for solar energy yields which is often required by the investors.
The intelligent monitoring has to be seen as the combined activities of automated permanent data logging, data analysis, failure detection and failure identification. In order to facilitate the intelligent monitoring, a modular approach of an overall solar thermal system is being used.
This intelligent monitoring system would have a positive impact on the time and personnel costs while providing the latest data on the system and its performance.
