Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission. Towards Building Solar INDIA (2009)

The National Solar Mission is a major initiative of the Government of India and State Governments being launched under the brand name “Solar India”. The Mission strategy has a two-fold objective: to scale-up deployment of solar energy, taking into account the financial constraints and affordability challenge in a country where large numbers of people still have no access to basic power and are poor and unable to pay for high cost solutions.

The objective of the National Solar Mission is to establish India as a global leader in solar energy, by creating the policy conditions for its diffusion across the country as quickly as possible. The Mission has developed a 3-phase approach, from 2012 to 2022, which is described in detail in this document.

The document goes through the objectives of the Mission, the proposed strategy, the expected roadmap and necessary policy and regulatory framework, as well as the R&D development needed to achieve it. The document further refers important areas such as the financing structure, the human development and the international collaboration.
