Feed-In Tariffs Support Solar Thermal Power in Spain

This document explains how the use of Feed-In Tariffs has been beneficial for the development of concentrating solar power (CSP) in Spain. A Feed-In Tariff ensures that the entrepreneurs’ electricity will be bought at a guaranteed rate for a fixed period of time.

Spain was the first country that introduced in 2002 a Feed-In Tariff for solar thermal which was fine tuned by subsequent legislations in 2004 and 2007. The document also outlines the reasons for the success of the Feed-In Tariff which were among other factors: a high tariff rate and a long term guaranteed tariff rate of 25 years.

The document also contains links to the 2004 Royal Decree (in Spanish and in English) and to the 2007 Royal Decree (in Spanish).
