This document was presented by Gerhard Stryi-Hipp of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE at the RE-INVEST Conference held in New Delhi, India, on 17 February 2015.
The presentation illustrates the status of solar thermal water heating in Europe, its possible applications and the main challenges to the deployment of this technology. According to the document, solar thermal heat is the renewable energy source with the highest capacity and second highest energy generation globally. China is the main market for solar thermal collectors, while India is third.
The document suggests some possible cooperation areas between India and Europe and identifies the main challenges to the deployment of solar thermal in India. Lack of awareness, concerns on reliability, insufficient data and limited roof space are identified as the main barriers.
