This presentation was delivered by Mr. Rafik Missaoui, a Tunisian Energy expert, during the âMENA Energized: Regional Challenges to "Green the Power" Sectorâ event held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. The event was jointly organized by the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) and the Euro Mediterranean Energy Market Integration Project (MED-EMIP).
The author outlined the status and forecasted developments of renewable energy sources according to the policy objectives of the countries analysed, with a focus on solar technologies (photovoltaic, concentrated solar power â CSP â and solar water heating). In most of the countries the regulatory framework is either already in place or about to be implemented. Without neglecting to show the existing regulatory drawbacks, the expert underlines the strong support that private initiatives and investments receive through different subsidies or tax exemptions.
Advocating for the implementation of win-win financial mechanisms, he brings to attention successful projects such as Tunisiaâs PROSOL solar water heating programme or Algeriaâs Hassi Rmel CSP project.
