DOE Solar Water Heating Market Expansion Workshop (2007)

This document was created and published by Jane Weismann of the Interstate Renewable Energy Council. It reports on different efforts focused on expanding the workforce and accreditations of solar thermal and solar energy installers. The North America Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) was one of the first and most established organizations to offer solar thermal certifications, starting in 2006. To encourage a more open market for solar thermal installers, the presentation suggests that more installers should become certified, and that state licensing boards should align more closely with NABCEP. Some trends in solar thermal installation certification that the presentation notes are in increase in available offerings, longer courses, a wide array of age groups entering, while still retaining smaller and hands on class sizes.
