This brochure was published by the Consortium Green Farming, which consists of 25 Dutch companies active in the horticulture technologies and provides support to development projects in East Africa. The brochure is focusing on the demonstration project “Green Dutch Energy Solution; solar-powered greenhouse” whose aim is to analyze the cost savings made by using solar energy in greenhouses in Kenya over a period of 2 years. This project uses solar energy to produce electricity and store it and also for heating purposes. It is hoped that the results of this project will encourage horticulture businesses in East Africa to switch their installation towards solar energy as it is more reliable and cost-effective. This could also have an effect on the quality of the cultivated products, as greenhouses would be heated days and nights, preventing diseases and increasing production.
