Concentrating Solar Thermal Power Economics (2009)

This paper was prepared by SuperSmart Grid (SSG) in 2007.The report offers a variety of credible sources on the economics of Concentrating Solar Thermal Power (CSTP).

It aims to give the most up to date and pertinent information relating to CSTP plants and it’s cost benefit in relation to PV and other intermittent energy sources. It shows that with a 30 percent investment tax credit the effective cost of CSTP is can be reduced by almost $30/MVh.

The document also presents the argument that CSTP costs cannot be evaluated in the same way as wind and PV because it is a fully controllable resource.
