Central Plant District Cooling and Heating on College Campus (2009)

This case study was written by SunChiller and All Energy USA. It focuses on a solar thermal air conditioning and heating system at Los Angeles Valley College.

Construction on the system began in 2005 when Los Angeles Valley College decided it wanted to replace it’s outdate HVAC system with a newer one that was more energy efficient and environmentally friendly. To meet expanded demand at the college, they added one new 350 tons solar thermal driven absorption chiller, and 2 new ice storage units. The solar thermal water heating system operates on a 7-day storage 5-day discharge cycle.
