Case Study: Solar Energy Solutions For Commercial Laundromats (2012)

This case study was created by solar energy company KU SOLAR. It explains the benefits of solar thermal water heating system and uses a commercial installation to demonstrate the energy savings associated with solar thermal.

Solar thermal can be used for air heating or solar cooling, but one of the most popular applications is water heating. At a laundromat in Kansas, KU SOLAR installed a $50,000 system that after incentives were applied to it cost roughly $20,000.

The Laundromat made back that money on saved energy costs in 7 years, or is projected to, and will offset 60% of the natural gas that would have otherwise been used during that time.
