Applications of UNEP’s Strategy: Engaging Local Bank for Lending (2014)
Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on February 13, 2015During an event organized earlier this year by IRENA, the International Renewable Energy Agency, Myriem Touhami, Program Manager, at the Energy Unit of UNEP's Division of Technology, Industry and Economic, presented the applications of UNEP’s strategy to engage local bank for lending. This strategy aims at helping the financial sector in creating clean energy financing mechanism, by overcoming market barriers and increasing investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. The presentation provides a detailed overview of the financial incentives programs set up in Tunisia (the Prosol project), and in Mexico (the Global Solar Water Heating Initiative and the Green Mortgage Program), with the help of UNEP, and shows how it has helped increase the use of solar thermal energy in these countries.
