Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on April 6, 2015This document was created and published by the Caribbean Renewable Energy Development Programme (CREDP). It reports on the potential of the solar energy market in the Caribbean; focusing on solar thermal on pages 17, 34, 45, 52, and in general throughout.
The Barbados is a world leader in solar thermal heating, with 2 out of 5 households relying on the technology, and is proof that the technology could be applied widely throughout the region. There is also significant potential for market growth in the commercial use of solar thermal water heating, especially in the hospitality and tourism sector, which is a larger market in the Caribbean. Some main barriers to deployment that currently exist are a lack of finance and a lack of capacity.
