Active Solar Systems: ENGS-44 Course on Sustainable Design (2014)
Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on February 19, 2015This presentation on active solar systems was given during a course on sustainable design by Benoit Cushman-Roisin, Professor of Engineering Science and Director of the Master of Engineering Management Degree Program of Dartmouth College in New Hampshire.
The course focuses on the design of solar panel systems such as “batch type” integrated collector-storage and thermosiphon, and explains the advantages and disadvantages of each of them. A chapter of the presentation is devoted to solar collectors and describes the technical specificities of flat plate and evacuated tubes collectors. The last section of the course contains some calculation methods to calculate the daily demand for space heating and warm water needs.
