The solar thermal industry in Austria can take the financial crisis lightly: Demand is still increasing. The number of grant applications in the months between July and September was distinctly higher than in the months before. “Grant applications have increased by almost two-thirds in the third quarter to 6,047 applications. In comparison to the first quarter, they have more than doubled,“ the Austrian solar thermal association Austria Solar stated in November.
The highest increase can be found in Lower Austria. Applications have almost tripled to 1,722 solar grant applications between July and September of 2008, compared to the quarter before. 70 % more applications have been submitted in Upper Austria (1,354), 40% more in Styria (1,257). The absolute laggard is Vienna with scarcely above 60 grant applications per quarter.
“A solar system is like a savings account with increasing interest. You invest once and save each year a little more of rising energy prices thanks to the sunlight you get for free,“ the news portal www.Oekonews.at cites Austria Solar managing director Roger Hackstock.
