Dear Solarthermalworld.org Reader,
Over
decades, German and Austrian installers have managed to protect their
trade – proud of their certified expertise and strong-willed in their
objection to any interference by suppliers and others in business
decisions like pricing. Now, there is a shift in the entire market and
new business models, including online shops for heating and solar
thermal equipment, emerge to offer all-in-one end consumer prices.
German Thermondo is one of these pioneers. After only 2.5 years, the
Berlin-based company founded in October 2013 by Philipp Pausder, Florian
Tetzlaff and Kristofer Fichtner (from left on the photo) engages 220
staff – 120 of which are installers – and has sold and installed 3,000
heating systems, including around 250 which were equipped with a solar
thermal add-on. A software tool developed in-house creates product
offers based on around 130 parameters, requiring no “house calls.”
Second-generation
family business Siko, an Austrian collector manufacturer, launched its
own online shop at the beginning of 2016. The idea is to allow end
consumers and installers to browse the web shop together and offer
customers the highest degree of transparency when presenting options and
prices. Siko shows that fixed pricing is compatible with a three-stage
distribution model.
