The target of the present paper is to give an overview on commercially available Solar Thermal and Heat Pump Systems (SAHPS) and a review on available monitoring results of these integrated systems. It is the fruit of the research of German, Italian and Austrian specialists in the framework of IEAâs Solar Heating and Cooling Programme.
The first part of the paper presents the overview of such commercially available systems. A classification of these systems was done according to their components, the share of renewable energy sources used, degree of integration of solar thermal and heat pumps, heat sources, etc. The second part of the paper deals with the system evaluation methodology, the performances being assessed according to several parameters, the most important being the Coefficient of Performance (COP) and the Seasonal Performance Factor (SPF).
The last section is dedicated to the monitoring results of tested systems. Because results come from individual installations within the framework of scientific programmes, a direct comparison with commercially used systems is not available. Overall system performance can still be limited in some cases, yet obtained performance figures are promising.
