Status and Potentials of Renewable Energy Technologies in Lebanon and the Region (2007)

Submitted by Raquel Costa on Wed, 06/16/2010 - 12:44.

This document released by Green Line Association, a Lebanese NGO, provides an overview of the renewable energies penetration in Lebanon and in surrounding countries (Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Syria).

In Lebanon, collective solar water heating (SWH) systems' installations have verified an annual increase rate of 24% since 2000, whereas in the past individual SWH systems were more common. The figures show that a decrease in the purchasing costs of the systems has been positive to the market.

The report is a summary of the workshop on solar water heating (SWH) technology which took place in Cairo in March 2009. The workshop looked into the technical aspects, framework conditions and private sector needs in Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestinian Territories, Syria and Tunisia.

Solar Thermal Systems Survey for the Lebanese Market (2006)

Submitted by Hans Craen on Mon, 10/12/2009 - 04:00.

This is a survey conducted by the Lebanese Solar Energy Society (LSES) which concentrates on the collection of data from companies, products and applications of solar thermal systems in order to establish a standard for Lebanese solar thermal systems and to assess the Lebanese market supply capabilities. The survey is the first step of a project between the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Ministry of Energy and Water (MEW).

Renewable Energy Resources in Lebanon: Practical Applications (2005)

Submitted by Raquel Costa on Tue, 10/06/2009 - 08:00.

As Lebanon is among the few countries in the Middle East that are not endowed with fossil fuels it is crucial for the country to find alternative energy sources.

This document prepared by the Lebanese American University looks at the various renewable energy sources, assessing its application in Lebanon. The document concludes that solar thermal water heating for residential houses is the best renewable energy alternative for Lebanon. It is proved to be the most cost effective system, requiring minimum initial investment.
