Solar Resource Management providing solar developers with key resource information

Submitted by Stuart Jackson on Wed, 11/12/2008 - 08:52.

Knowledge of solar energy resources is critical when designing and building successful solar water heating systems. One way to assess the solar energy resources is the use of other data sources, such as weather satellite data. SHC Task 36 (including the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission) is developing a web-based portal to provide easier access to these data sets, and investigating key improvements in solar resource assessments and forecasting.

Environmental Due Diligence (EDD) of Renewable Energy Projects

Submitted by Stuart Jackson on Thu, 04/24/2008 - 16:02.

Environmental Due Diligence (EDD) is the collection and assessment of data relative to environmental conditions or impacts prior to a transaction to identify and quantify environment-related financial, legal, and reputational risks.
Banks have put in place a number of instruments to manage risk. One of these instruments is
commonly termed a Due Diligence review. Recently,
it has become a way for financial institutions to incorporate environmental and social considerations in their investment review process.

Expert System for Solar Thermal Power Stations (2001)

Submitted by Stuart Jackson on Thu, 04/24/2008 - 15:56.

An efficient worldwide expansion of solar thermal power plant technology requires
reliable data on the quality of the solar energy resource and on the availability of appropriate
sites. The German Aerospace Center DLR uses its remote sensing capabilities
and international geographic information sources to provide a detailed and
well founded database to support most activities of industry, authorities and funding
institutions related to solar thermal power expansion, like e.g.:
- Solar Energy Resource Assessment
- Site Selection

Thermal solar energy in detached houses

Submitted by Stuart Jackson on Thu, 04/24/2008 - 15:35.

The Jämtland County Energy Agency and the Energy advisors have during 2003 implemented the
project “Thermal solar Energy in detached houses”. The project, which was partly financed by the
Swedish Energy Agency, aimed to increase the interest and competence according to thermal solar
energy in detached houses. The project was mainly based on information and education activities.
The evaluation shows that our quantitative objective for the project not have been reached. The installed solar panel area increased with only 245 m2, our objective was 600 m2. The evaluation
