IEA SHC Task 51: German Summer School Educates Students on Solar Urban Planning

Summer School BerlinThe summer school called City in Transition (Stadt im Wandel) ended with a public presentation of the project designs from four student groups on Monday, 26 September, in Berlin, Germany (see photo). During the previous week, students from different fields and German universities had developed a master plan for solar-optimised buildings in an area of Berlin’s Adlershof district. ”We educated students on how to combine town planning and solar energy usage,” explained Tanja Siems, one of the organisers of the summer school and Head of the Institute of Urban Design & Studies, Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering of the University of Wuppertal, Germany. Several experts from the IEA Solar Heating and Cooling programme’s Task 51, Solar Energy in Urban Planning, had supported the summer school as tutors or evaluated the final presentations.

Training Course on Solar District Heating (2011)

This document comprises training material developed in the framework of the SDHtake-off project with the support of Intelligent Energy Europe Programme. It has been designed as a “pool” of information to be used by all training organizations. It gives a broad overview of the solar thermal technologies employed for district heating, their characteristics as well as the legislative and technical requirements that are applicable in the EU.

SOLTHERM Europe – Campaign Guidelines (2003)

This report was prepared on the framework of the Soltherm Project. It aims to provide recommendations and guidelines for any party (local authorities, energy utilities, consultants and energy agencies) involved or interested in market enlargement actions for solar heating products in Europe.

The document is based on experience and best practices from previous campaigns and market stimulation activities. It also included promotion and publicity opportunities for both demand and supply side.

Inspection Checklist Solar Water Heaters (2007)

This is a template document used for inspections in solar water heating systems.

This template document was produced in the framework of the MED-ENEC Project (Energy Efficiency in the Construction Sector), an EU funded project promoting cooperation between EU and MEDA countries in energy efficiency.

This short inspection checklist includes different sections on general data about the system, visual inspection, testing and measurements, user opinion and action list.

Code of Practice for Manufacture and Installation of Solar Water Heating Systems in New Zealand (2004)

This Code of Practice was published by the New Zealand Solar Industries Association (SIA) to provide guidance to manufacturers, suppliers, and purchasers of solar hot water systems on manufacturing and installation standards to be observed in New Zealand, especially for household installations.

Handbook for the Solar Water Heating Pilot Programme in California (2008)

The California Center for Sustainable Energy (CCSE) developed a Solar Water Heating Pilot Programme, following the launch of the California Solar Initiative (CSI) in 2006, intended to promote the greenhouse gas emissions reduction by lowering the usage of natural gas and electricity for water heating.
