IEA SHC: New Task to Use Solar Energy for Water Treatment

AEE INTECOn 18 September, there will be a definition meeting for a new task called Solar Energy in Industrial Water Management in Gleisdorf, Austria. The initiator of this international research project within the IEA Solar Heating and Cooling Programme is Christoph Brunner from Austrian organisation AEE INTEC. The aim will be to investigate and improve solar-powered water separation and purification in industrial settings. Researchers and industry representatives are invited to attend the one-day workshop to discuss the agenda and the structure of the global initiative. France Increases Public Support for Solar Thermal

The French energy agency Ademe has been supporting renewable heat production in the industry, the district heating sector and at multi-family buildings since 2009. The budget of the national subsidy scheme, Fonds Chaleur (Heat Fund), will double in amount from around EUR 240 million per year to EUR 420 million in 2017. During 2009 to 2014, solar installations accounted for as little as 6 % of Fonds Chaleur's EUR 1.2 billion (see the attached report). Despite the high subsidy amount, the number of solar thermal applications is declining, as is the French solar market in general. Ademe is trying to counter the negative trend by offering new incentive schemes to address the large solar systems segments.

Singapore: Solar Desalination Unit incorporated into a Container

 Demonstration plant at Marina Barrage, Singapore” At the beginning of July, memsys clearwater distribution Pte. Ltd. and Nanyang Technological University presented a new desalination technology at the Singapore International Water Week. Besides several industrial applications, the small and mobile technology, which uses solar thermal panel energy for the vaporisation process, can also be used during disaster relief efforts. The unit is driven by solar energy alone - both thermal and PV – and can be placed in a 20-foot shipping container. The photo shows the demonstration plant at Marina Barrage, Singapore.

India: Two Solar Desalination Pilot Projects by Tinox-Mage
