Germany: Process Heat Supply from Vacuum Tubes and Air Collectors on the Rise

Process Heat StatisticsThere is a distinct difference between the make-up of the German solar process heat segment and the country’s solar thermal market in general and it concerns the type of collectors used. One in four collectors used in solar process heat systems is an air collector, although the technology contributes only around 10 % to the total collector area newly installed each year. The same has been true for vacuum tube systems, which showed a 35 % share in solar process heat installations among approved projects in 2016 – despite an overall market share of only 9 % last year. All figures are based on statistics provided by the University of Kassel’s Institute of Thermal Engineering, which has been in charge of the research accompanying the subsidy scheme on solar process heat under the auspices of Germany’s Market Rebate Programme for Renewable Energies or MAP.

Overview of Solar Thermal Process Heat & Cooling in India (2012)

This presentation was given by Dr. A.K. Singhal of the Indian Ministry of New & Renewable Energy at the 3rd Indo-German Energy Symposium in Delhi in May 2012.  The speaker provides a detailed overview of the various solar thermal technologies already available or still under development in India.  The presentation focuses on Solar Water Heating (SWH), Solar Air Heating, Process Heat and Solar Cooling.   SHW is well developed in India and in 2012 5.10 million m² of collectors had already been installed, with the objective to reach 18.7 million by 2022.

Canada/Germany: Enerconcept’s Lubi Collectors Eligible for BAFA Grants

Good news from Germany for Canadian air collector manufacturer Enerconcept: The company has completed its collector tests for the Lubi wall and the roof-mounted Luba GL at the Fraunhofer ISE institute in Freiburg. The collectors meet all of the requirements by the German Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA) and are now eligible for grants. Enerconcept’s German partner, GoGaS Goch, which will sell the air collectors together with its energy-efficient solutions for heating and process heat, is delighted with the success of the combined systems. Solar Heat Worldwide - Markets and Contribution to Energy Supply 2010 (2012)

This report has been written by Werner Weiss and Franz Mauthner in contribution to the International Energy Agency (IEA)’s Solar Heating and Cooling Programme (SHC). It documents the solar thermal capacity installed in 55 countries, and ascertains the contribution of solar thermal systems to the supply of energy and the CO¬2 emissions avoided as a result of operating these systems.

CERN’s Ultra High Vacuum Flat Plate Solar Collector Markets and Applications (2008)

This is a presentation from the CERN (European Organisation for Nuclear Research) about solar thermal technologies and applications.

The presentation reviews the different market applications (hot water and heating, space heating and cooling, desalination, pool heating, industrial processes and electricity production). It also gives data on the European energy market and the market share of the different solar technologies. The document indicates the market drivers for solar thermal and the forecasts for the coming years.

 

Canada Committed to Solar Thermal Energy

The first solar seasonal storage facility on the North American continent: Since September 2007, 52 single-family homes at the Drake Landing Solar Community in Okotoks near Calgary have been heated using 800 collectors of the Canadian manufacturer Enerworks and a ground reservoir with 140 boreholes.
