Solar Heat Worldwide - Markets and Contribution to Energy Supply 2010 (2012)

This report has been written by Werner Weiss and Franz Mauthner in contribution to the International Energy Agency (IEA)’s Solar Heating and Cooling Programme (SHC). It documents the solar thermal capacity installed in 55 countries, and ascertains the contribution of solar thermal systems to the supply of energy and the CO¬2 emissions avoided as a result of operating these systems.

Review of Technical Information on Renewable Heat Technologies (2011)

The UK Department of Energy and Climate Change commissioned this report to the consultancy AEA Technology.

The report analyses the technical costs of four heating technologies: air source heat pumps (ASHP); ground source heat pumps (GSHP); solar thermal and biomass.

The objective is to better understand these technologies in order to prepare the review process of the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme. The Renewable Heat Incentive went live in 2010 and it should be reviewed every four years.

Description of Simulation Tools used in Solar Cooling (2009)

This technical report is a deliverable of Task 38, Subtask C within the framework of the International Energy Agency’s Solar Heating and Cooling Programme. It describes both existing and developing simulation tools and models used for solar cooling applications.

This template document was produced in the framework of the MED-ENEC Project (Energy Efficiency in the Construction Sector), an EU funded project promoting cooperation between EU and MEDA countries in energy efficiency.

Benefits of Electric Generation Displacement Using Solar Thermal Water Heaters (2005)

This master thesis, presented at the University of Puerto Rico, explores the benefits of solar thermal water heaters installations. Research has proven that this technology contributes to a demand reduction and reduced power losses at the transmission and distribution levels, which results in reduced costs for both utility and residential customers. Thus, the increased system’s efficiency contributes to a considerable reduction in fuel and energy cost.

REFUND+ Final Report (2009)

The REFUND + project (2006-2009), supported by the Intelligent Energy Europe and ADEME (Agence de l'environnement et de la maîtrise de l'énergie), intends to identify, monitor and evaluate the impact of incentive schemes on the development of RES heating systems in private households in five countries: Austria, Belgium, France, Italy and Portugal. Implementation of specific financial instruments was simulated in two case studies in Lithuania and Poland.

Commercial combined Solar and Pellet Heating Systems (2004)

Electrical heaters are often used as the auxiliary heat source for solar thermal heating systems, but the use of wood pellets in pellet stoves and pellet boilers is becoming more and more popular.

In Sweden, which is the most developed European market for pellet heating systems for one-and two-family houses, an estimated 30000 pellet heating units had already been installed by the end of 2001.

Canada Committed to Solar Thermal Energy

The first solar seasonal storage facility on the North American continent: Since September 2007, 52 single-family homes at the Drake Landing Solar Community in Okotoks near Calgary have been heated using 800 collectors of the Canadian manufacturer Enerworks and a ground reservoir with 140 boreholes.
