Mexico: New Idea Exchange on Solar Process Heat

Mexico Platform MeetingDuring an event in Mexico City on 30 August, a collaboration agreement was signed to establish a platform for promoting solar heat in Mexico. The partners in this project are ANES, the national solar energy association; DKTI Solar, the Large-Scale Solar Energy Programme by the German Agency for International Cooperation; and CONUEE, the National Commission for Energy Efficiency. The agreement is intended to result in an inter-institutional platform, to which stakeholders will contribute at their own expense.

World Map of Solar Process Heat Specialists 2017

Worldmap Process HeatIndustrial solar heat is far from being a standard yet, but it is more widespread than you might think. The first World Map of Solar Process Heat Specialists shows 71 companies in 22 countries which reported almost 400 reference systems. Together with additional plants included in the online portal ship-plants.info, the world market for industrial process heat comprises at a minimum 525 plants with an collector or mirror area of at least 416,414 m².

Pakistan: UNIDO Suggests Policies for Renewables in Industrial Applications

At the request of the Pakistani government, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) has launched a project titled Sustainable Energy Initiative for Industries in Pakistan to promote the adoption of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies and services in Pakistan’s industries. But despite the country’s great energy demand and huge solar potential, the study says little about solar thermal usage 
 

Europe: Strategy on Heating and Cooling Launches in February 2016

Maroš Šefčovič (left) and Miguel Arias CañeteThe publication of the EU Strategy on Heating and Cooling (Heat Strategy) is now scheduled for February 2016, when it will be published as part of the winter (legislative) package comprising a revised Security of Gas Supply Regulation and an EU strategy for liquefied natural gas. The Heat Strategy was supposed to be already out on 18 November 2015. The consultation process is now over and the ENER C3 unit of the Directorate General (DG) of Energy is drafting the final version. Resource/Cost Estimates For Solar Thermal Space/Water Heating (2010-2020)

The Solar heat resource is dependent in the first instance on the insolation falling on the surface of Ireland. The usable power generated by solar panels will vary depending on latitude, time of year and weather conditions. According to the European Solar Thermal Industry Federation, current technology produces per square metre of solar panel between 300 and 450 thermal kWh/year.  The resource area is based on the roof area of existing and future dwellings.

A Direct Solar Water Heating System for the Health Clinic in the Town of Santa Isabel Cholula, State of Puebla, Mexico (2012)

Low-cost Distributed Solar-thermal-electric Power Generation (2004)

This report was written by A. Der Minassians et. al. of UC Berkley. It measures the feasibility of solar thermal systems used for electric power generation, which could compete for price parity with other sources of electricity. The paper claims that when using only low-cost materials and manufacturing processes it is still possible to design a solar thermal electric system. The collectors should operate at a medium temperature of 125C to 150C.
