SHC 2017: Largest experts’ meeting on integrated solar heating and cooling

SHC2017_1500 experts from more than 50 countries attended the 5th International Conference on Solar Heating and Cooling (SHC) in Abu Dhabi, UAE, from 30 October to 2 November 2017. It was the first time that this biennial conference by the IEA’s Solar Heating and Cooling Programme had been organised jointly with the Solar World Congress by the International Solar Energy Society (ISES). The new partnership resulted in 2017’s largest experts’ meeting on integrated SHC solutions for buildings, industry, cities, regions and utilities, and in over 300 presentations.

IEA SHC: Most Effective Solar Cooling Storage Technologies

Scientists from IEA SHC Task 53, New Generation Solar Cooling & Heating Systems, have compared the cost, efficiency and adaptability of solar cooling storage solutions and are now creating a report about the technologies most suitable for a given application. The researchers examined both thermal and electricity storage systems. But whereas the report can soon be used as guidance for choosing the most apt solution to heat and cool buildings, it will not provide a recommendation in favour of storing electricity or thermal energy.

Solar Thermal Energy (2007)

This document was prepared in 2007 by the University of Gavle. The document gives a detailed introduction to solar thermal power, as well as descriptions of various energy applications and active and passive solar heating systems.

The report breaks down in detail the different types of solar thermal systems and collectors. Charts, graphs and photos show the various examples listed.

Philippe Papillon speaks of INES' different Solar Thermal Energy Projects

Interview with Philippe Papillon from INES, made during ESTEC 2011 conference in Marseille. Philippe speaks of his organisation's work on solar thermal energy. 30% of the 15-strong team's time is spent on system design and testing, with a main focus on auxiliary consumption and the reduction of cost of solar energy. They also work on component design, specifically targetting preliminary components as an effective way to reduce costs.

Description of Simulation Tools used in Solar Cooling (2009)

This technical report is a deliverable of Task 38, Subtask C within the framework of the International Energy Agency’s Solar Heating and Cooling Programme. It describes both existing and developing simulation tools and models used for solar cooling applications.

Renewable Energy Technology Roadmap up to 2020

Published in January 2007, by EREC (European Renewable Energy Council), the document shows the ambitions of the European Renewable Energy Industry to reach the EU targets for 2020 for different sectors, including electricity, heating & cooling, and biofuels.
It provides roadmaps for each sector, predicting its development and the conditions under which progress can be made.
