Regional Workshop for the Transformation and Strengthening of Solar Water Heating in Latin America and the Caribbean

This workshop report summarises the regional meeting held in Chile from 22-23 June 2011 as part of the Global Solar Water Heating Market Transformation and Strengthening Initiative (GSWH Project). Organised by the Latin American Energy Association (OLADE, and regional partner for the project) together with the Chilean Ministry of Energy, the Regional Workshop looked to strengthen the network for SWH in Latin America and the Caribbean, with expert speakers and participants from nine Latin American countries.

This is a presentation made during the UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) Regional Workshop of Solar Thermal Water Heating in Chile in June 2011. This presentation of Eduardo Noboa from OLADE, the Latin American Energy Organisation, passes in review the solar thermal market of different countries in South America: Brazil, Argentina, Barbados, Colombia, Nicaragua and Peru.

Solar Water Heating Fee-for-Service Programmes in the Caribbean Region (2006)

This 2006 guidebook, prepared with the support of several institutions (Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP); Blue Moon Fund; Oak Foundation; Green Markets International; Caribbean Solar Technologies Limited; Vitae Civilis Institute) provides electric utility companies substantial information about solar water heating fee-for-service programmes with a view to boost its development on residential, commercial, and industrial applications, without using government subsidies.

Is there enough sunshine in all regions?

Solar thermal systems produce hot water whether the system is installed in Sweden, Germany, India, Tunisia or South America. The annual yield depends on the application (domestic hot water, pool heating, space heating), the local climatic conditions and system dimensioning (high or low solar fraction).
