USA: Industry Joins Promotion Campaign for Solar Thermal

 Seth Warren Rose More than 20 solar thermal companies have joined Eneref Institute’s Solar Thermal Advantage initiative as sponsors since the initiative’s kick-off meeting in October 2011. The campaign was started five years ago by Eneref’ s founder, Seth Warren Rose. The initiative's goal for the near future is to raise public awareness for solar thermal by presenting case studies in different magazines and newspapers, put together individually for each magazine target group. The first stories were published in Commercial Building Products (circulation 41,000) and Reeves Journal, a plumbing journal with a circulation of 13,000.

USA: First SHC conference to take place in San Francisco next July

 SHC 2012 The Solar Heating and Cooling Programme of the International Energy Agency (IEA SHC) is planning to start its own annual conference in 2012. The conference name SHC has been chosen in reference to the long-established research programme IEA SHC. The full name is International Conference on Solar Heating and Cooling for Buildings and Industry. The 1st SHC will take place in San Francisco from 9 to 11 July 2012 – in cooperation with the Intersolar North America (10 to 12 July 2012).

In policy lobbying even a single sentence included in a bill is, in some cases, already a huge success. This is exactly the case for the Energy and Water Appropriations Bill that has recently passed out of the U.S. House of Representatives. “The Committee supports ongoing Solar Heating and Cooling (SHC) research and development activities within the Building Technologies Program”, is the key sentence in the report that accompanies the bill.

Hawaii: Is the Strongest Solar Thermal Market in the US in Trouble?

After being the strongest U.S. market for solar thermal for many years, Hawaii currently has to cope with a falling demand for solar thermal installations. According to the U.S. Solar Market Insight report for the third quarter of US Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) and GMT Research, Hawaii has dropped behind California on second position. California: CPUC Approves 8-Year Incentive Programme with a Budget of US$ 351 Million

On the 21st of January, the Californian Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) finally approved the “California Solar Initiative (CSI) – Thermal Program”. The eight-year programme has a budget of US$ 351 million and is thought to financially assist home owners and proprietors of commercial buildings who replace natural gas or electric geysers with solar water heaters (see the final decision of CPUC attached).
