Europe: The Way to a Shared SHIP Research and Innovation Agenda

Submitted by Baerbel Epp on March 4, 2017
INSHIPHuge potential but little implementation so far – this is how one could describe the global situation of Solar Heat for Industrial Processes (SHIP). Although experts acknowledge that process heat shows the greatest potential of all solar heating and cooling applications, the share of SHIP systems in total installed solar thermal capacity has remained below 1 %. To tackle some of the barriers, such as missing standardisation, system costs and reliability, the INSHIP project funded by EU Horizon 2020 was launched in early 2017. It aims to devise a European Common Research and Innovation Agenda (ECRIA) on SHIP within the next four years. The project is coordinated by the German Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE and involves 28 European research institutions from twelve countries.

SHAAMS report: WP 4: The Regional State of the Art in Crete Region (2013)

Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on February 24, 2015

This report, published by SHAAMS, the Strategic Hubs for the Analysis and Acceleration of the Mediterranean Solar Sector, provides a general picture of the solar energy sector in Crete and makes a SWOT analyses.  It shares information on the regional solar policies and strategies already in place, on R&D projects and awareness campaigns.  With regards to solar thermal energy, the report says it is mainly used for hot water production in household buildings and in hotels.  There are very few applications in industry and agriculture.  New technologies, like solar thermal cooling and space

Solar Water Heating Systems: A Review of Global Experiences (2010)

Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on May 29, 2012

Prepared jointly by India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP), this report gives an overview of the Solar Water Heating Systems (SWHS) market in India over the last decade, and counterpoints it against broader global developments. After looking at global trends in market development, the document gives summaries of UNDP-GEF and REEEP experiences of SWHS projects. This includes summaries of specific projects over the last five years.

Argentina: Grant Scheme for Solar Development and Research Projects

Submitted by Baerbel Epp on February 28, 2011

Logo Agencia” The National Agency for Scientific and Technological Promotion (Agencia) has invited tenders for solar R&D projects which will be financed with the help of a new grant scheme. In order to be eligible for the funds, the project has to use one of the following three technologies: solar thermal, photovoltaics or Concentrating Solar Power. Applications can be submitted until 11 April 2011.
