IEA SHC: New Task to Push Emerging PVT Industry

Submitted by Baerbel Epp on May 15, 2017
Inventors and start-ups have been trying to combine photovoltaic and solar thermal collectors into one product for many years. Finally, a new industry seems to be emerging. The IEA SHC task Application of PVT collectors and new solutions with PVT systems, which is currently being defined, intends to become the go-to platform for the young technology. It is scheduled for approval by the IEA SHC executive committee in November 2017 and is planned to start in January 2018. The first Task Definition Meeting in Zurich, Switzerland, in May attracted great interest from the industry.

Germany: Programme of SMEThermal 2014 available

Submitted by Baerbel Epp on October 30, 2013

The development of Europe’s solar thermal industry is posing great challenges: While the residential market has been declining, there has been an increasing demand for complex industrial solutions and new business models are necessary. The international solar thermal industry conference, which will take place in Berlin on 18 February 2014, intends to address these key issues facing the industry. SMEThermal is organised by Solarpraxis AG along with the trade papers Sonne Wind & Wärme and Sun & Wind Energy. 160 stakeholders and key players from the solar thermal sector are expected to participate.

Global Collector Test Standard Incorporates New Technologies

Submitted by Baerbel Epp on October 24, 2013

The final version of the EN ISO 9806 was approved by the international standard committees CEN/TC 312 and ISO TC180 with more than 90 % of the votes shortly before their meetings in Freiburg, Germany, in the middle of September. This is an important milestone for the solar thermal industry, because it marks the first time that there will be a modern global standard for collector testing procedures which different countries can refer to. In addition, the new standard includes testing methodology for a number of new solar thermal technologies, such as solar air heating collectors, concentrating medium-temperature collectors and PVT collectors. Now, it will only be a matter of weeks until the standard is handed down to the national standardisation secretariats and, over the coming month, distributed through their national publication channels.

Great Britain: Microgeneration Certification Scheme lists PVT Collectors

Submitted by Baerbel Epp on October 12, 2010

PVT collectors” Generating heat and electricity: Since May 2010, 48 Volther PVT collectors by Turkish manufacturer Solimpeks have both supplied hot water to a children's home in Surrey County, Great Britain, and fed solar electricity into the local energy grid. According to the manufacturer, the system's payback period is 12 years, thanks to the Feed-in Tariff scheme for solar electricity.
