Solar Thermal Installation Manual (2012)

This document is a solar thermal installation manual. It was created by the solar energy company Solar Panels Plus to serve as an instruction guide for their residential and commercial solar thermal units. Installation practices in the manual depend on whether a single tank or double tank system is being installed. The manual defines and identifies all the various parts of the system and the key safety practices. Then the manual walks the user through all the steps of installation, from mounting through assembly and testing.

Design, Development, and Performance Evaluation of Solar Heating System for Disinfection of Domestic Roof-Harvested Rainwater (2014)

This research article proposes the use of a box-type solar heater for the disinfection of domestic roof-harvested rainwater in Ibadan, Nigeria. Solar water heater can be used to pasteurize water thereby destroying bacteria and viruses when heated to temperatures of about 65°C.

Technical Guide for Architects and Designers: Forced Circulation Systems for Single Family Houses.

This technical guide provides explanations for architects and designers on the preparation and installation of forced circulation solar thermal systems in single family houses.

It provides information and technical criteria to privilege the installation of certain types of small solar thermal systems over other ones. It also investigates the architectural conditions, technical variables and technical specifications required for the correct integration of a Solar Thermal System in a conventional installation of domestic hot water. The document includes a glossary providing explanation on different terms and techniques.

This technical guide provides technical explanations for architects and designers on the preparation and installation of solar thermal systems of the thermosiphon type in single family houses. It provides information and technical criteria needed to choose the most suitable system of solar water heating for single family houses according several technical conditions. It investigates the architectural criteria, technical variables and technical specifications required for the integration of a thermosyphon solar thermal system in a typical domestic hot water installation of a single family house. The document includes a glossary providing explanation on different terms and techniques.

Solar Thermal Energy Manual (2006)

This manual was produced by IDEA (Instituto para la Diversificación y Ahorro de la Energía) the Spanish Institute for Energy.

The manual provides detailed background information on solar thermal, the existing technologies, development in Spain and in Europe, how to use it, which products exist, which applications, advantages, legislation in Spain, etc.

The manual is a great example of awareness raising documents that can be released to increase knowledge about new and renewable energies.

Manual for Structural Assessment for Installation in Domestic Dwellings (2003)

This document, prepared by the New Zealand Solar Industry Association (SIA), is an example of a guide explaining how to evaluate domestic timber framed dwellings for the installation of solar collectors and store tanks placed on the roof.
The manual was intended to supplement the standard NZS3604 and identify when specific engineering design is required.

A Guide to Applying for a Building Consent for a Solar Water Heating System Installation (2009)

This document, prepared by the New Zealand Solar Industry Association (SIA), is an example of a guide explaining how to obtain approval from a building consent authority for a solar thermal system installation.

This guide was done with the support of SWH suppliers, builders, homeowners’ agents and architects by explaining typical information needed for a SWH building consent application. It is meant to assist in preparing plans, specifications and general documentation needed for a building consent application.

Instructions SIA Complaint Procedures (2004)

This document was produced by the New Zealand Solar Industries Association to help consumers on what to do in case there is a concern or a problem with an installed system.

In such situations, the issue should be raised with the supplier or installer. The supplier or installer who sold the system is responsible for all aspects of the system installed and for ensuring that the product performs adequately for the purpose for which it has been sold.

SolTerm Manual 5.0: Analysis of Solar Thermal and PV Systems' Performance (2007)

This manual, produced by the INETI Instituto Nacional de Engenharia, Tecnologia e Inovação, relates to SolTerm 5, a software programme especially tuned for Portuguese climatic and technical conditions, to analyse the performance of solar systems, both PV and solar thermal.
