It was created by the solar energy company Solar Panels Plus to serve as an instruction guide for their residential and commercial solar thermal units. Installation practices in the manual depend on whether a single tank or double tank system is being installed. The manual defines and identifies all the various parts of the system and the key safety practices. Then the manual walks the user through all the steps of installation, from mounting through assembly and testing.

Ithaca Park & Recreational Facility (2012)

This case study was created by plumbing equipment manufacturer Frank P. Langley Co. It reports on a solar thermal installation for the Parks and Recreational Facility of the city of Ithaca, NY.

Eight collectors connected to two 240 gallon tanks were installed for use on the facility. The project was funded by the Recovery Act, and the equipment was eligible under the Buy American rules.

Taitem Engineering was the design engineer for the project, and SunSky Energy served as the installation contractor.

The presentation uses a diagram to illustrate the basic design of a system, and discusses what makes evacuated tubes, flat plate collectors, or hybrids most suitable for different situations. Piping arrangements are essential for system protection, as the presentation illustrates, especially in in-climate weather.
