The document, presented by Atsu Divine of the Koforidua Polytechnic of Ghana, explains why Ghana needs solar thermal technology for its development.

Canada: Solar Vision 2025: Beyond Market Competitiveness (2010)

This report issued by the Canadian Solar Industries Association (CanSIA) gives an overview of the evolution of the solar energy market in Canada until 2025.  The report covers both the solar photovoltaic and the solar thermal sectors.

Solar energy has numerous advantages. It will be economically competitive, will create employment and production costs will be reduced.

For the solar thermal sector, CanSIA believes that by 2025 the solar thermal industry can reach a capacity between 8 GWth and 15 GWth and has identified 3 different scenarios. 

Analysis of Austrian SDH Plants Constructed in the Framework of a National Funding Programme (2014)

This presentation was given by F. Mauthner of AEE INTEC at the 2nd international Solar District Heating Conference in Hamburg on 3 – 4 June 2014.  It outlines the evolution of District Heating in Austria since the 1950’s with an emphasis on solar district heating (SDH).  In 2013, there were 25 SDH plants of over 500 m², representing 35.000 m² of collector area.  The presentation also provides information on national funding programmes, which cover 50% of the additional costs a solar thermal application require.  Up until now, approximately 90 Mio Euro funding has been provided.

SHAAMS report: WP 4: The Regional State of the Art in Crete Region (2013)

This report, published by SHAAMS, the Strategic Hubs for the Analysis and Acceleration of the Mediterranean Solar Sector, provides a general picture of the solar energy sector in Crete and makes a SWOT analyses.  It shares information on the regional solar policies and strategies already in place, on R&D projects and awareness campaigns.  With regards to solar thermal energy, the report says it is mainly used for hot water production in household buildings and in hotels.  There are very few applications in industry and agriculture.  New technologies, like solar thermal cooling and space

New ECOWAS Solar Thermal Energy Program : Background, Components, Process (2014)

On 13 June 2014, Hannes Bauer, Solar Thermal Program Manager at ECREEE, ECOWAS Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, gave a workshop in Cabo Verde on the new ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States) Solar Thermal Energy Program. 

The 1st part of the presentation focuses on the global market growth of solar thermal collectors, showing that from 2000 to 2010 the market has increased steadily by 20% each year. It also shows that West African States were not participating during that period. 

Resource/Cost Estimates for Solar Thermal Space/Water Heating 2010 and 2020 ((2004)

The Solar heat resource is dependent in the first instance on the insolation falling on the surface of Ireland. The usable power generated by solar panels will vary depending on latitude, time of year and weather conditions. According to the European Solar Thermal Industry Federation, current technology produces per square metre of solar panel between 300 and 450 thermal kWh/year. 

The Value of Solar Heating and Cooling (SHC) in Minnesota: Solar Thermal and Minnesota Energy and Climate Goals (2013).

This study on the value of solar heating and cooling, commissioned by the Minnesota Department of Commerce, analyses how solar thermal energy can help the state in reaching the climate and energy goals of reducing greenhouse gases emissions by 80% by 2050 and relying on renewable energy to produce 25% of electricity by 2025.

Solar Thermal in Industries: Status and Perspectives (2012)
