Overview on Worldwide Installed Solar Cooling Systems (2007)

This report was submitted by the Institute for Renewable Energy and EURAC Research of Bolzano, Italy in 2007. It is an overview on worldwide installed solar assisted cooling systems. Technical properties of the plans are listed and the dimensioning of single components is discussed. It describes the location and final use of the systems, type of cooling capacity, type of solar collectors, capacity of energy storage, type of power of back up systems, heat rejection technology and hydraulic schemes.

Technologies and Perspectives of Solar Cooling Systems (2014)

This presentation, given by Dr. Uli Jakob of Solem Consulting, at the AHK (German-Australian Chamber of Industry and Commerce) conference in Sydney in March 2014, gives an update on the technologies and perspectives of solar cooling systems.  It covers the different technologies used, such as sorption chillers, integrated hydraulic units and standardized solar cooling kits.  It also provides a short overview of solar collector technologies for solar cooling.

Construction of Solar Collectors for Warm Water – Practical Guide (2014)

WECF,  Women of Europe for a Common Future, has published a practical guide explaining how to build a cheap and efficient solar water heating system, using local knowledge and materials and which can be used all year long. The document provides information on the different parts of a solar water heater, on how to build solar collectors and a heat exchanger tank.  It also gives further information on other solar water heater models.

Overview on Solar Thermal Plus Heat Pumps Systems and Review of Monitoring Results (2011)

The target of the present paper is to give an overview on commercially available Solar Thermal and Heat Pump Systems (SAHPS) and a review on available monitoring results of these integrated systems. It is the fruit of the research of German, Italian and Austrian specialists in the framework of IEA’s Solar Heating and Cooling Programme.

On the Potential of Using Heat from Solar Thermal Collectors for Heat Pump Evacuators (2011)

This is a study presented by members of the Swiss Institut für Solartechnik during the ISES Solar Word Congress held in Kassel, Germany (28 August - 2 September 2011). Part of the IEA SHC Task 44, the paper researches the benefits and performances of using heat from solar collectors for the evaporator of the heat pump instead of using the heat directly.

Integrated Unglazed Solar Panel Development (2010)

This is a presentation of the research done by the Environmental Energy Solutions Ltd. for the development and testing of their prototype solar heat system. The particularities consisted in the large, low cost solar collector integrated into the roof or wall cladding system and its integrated water sourced heat pump and thermal storage system. A prototype was installed on a house in Wellington, providing year-round performance data. This report was done with the support of the New Zealand Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority.

The Potential of Solar Thermal Technologies in a Sustainable Energy Future (2010)

Based on the previous studies and results from international R&D cooperation, the declared goal is to present the opportunities linked to solar thermal technologies given their positioning as the fourth largest renewable source of energy.

Success Factors in Solar District Heating (2010)

The 'SDHtake-off - Solar District Heating in Europe' project is a EU-funded project (under the European Commission Programme IEE Intelligent Energy Europe)supporting the market rollout of solar district heating in Europe. It started on July 2009 and runs for a period of three years. This document is one of its deliverables, describing the development of SDH capacities in Europe as a result of the existing policies and incentives.

Trainenergy Project. Module 9. Renewable Energy Systems (2011)

The Trainenergy project ran from September 2009 to September 2011, with the objective to produce a training programme about the EU Energy Performance of Building and the Energy End-Use Efficiency and Energy Services Directives for tradesmen in the construction industry. The project was run in Ireland, UK, France, Germany, Spain and Denmark. This module presents the best renewable sources that offer heating at virtually zero carbon emissions, solar water heating being the first technology to be assessed.
