Solar Process Heat in Breweries (2014)

Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on February 13, 2015

This presentation was given by AEE INTEC at a SOLTRAIN training in Pretoria, South Africa, in April 2014.  It provides an overview of the EU-funded FP7 project SolarBrew.  This project aims at developing the use of solar process heat in the brewing industry. 3 breweries are part of this project.  The Brewery Goess in Austria is using solar energy for its mashing process, relying on a 1.500m² flat plate collector field and a 200m³ storage tank.

Brewing Beer with Solar Heat (2010)

Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on August 10, 2012

This report gives case studies of two Germany beer breweries - the Hofmühl brewery in Eichstätt and the Hüth Brewiry in Kassel-Baunatal - that have integrated solar thermal energy into their production process. Although there is high potential for solar process heat to be used in industrial applications, the necessary technology remains relatively expensive when operating temperatures exceed 100°C, meaning that its penetration remains low.

Concentrating Solar Thermal Systems for Generating Electricity (2010)

Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on December 7, 2011

This is a presentation from the Mexican Non-Conventional Energy Management Electric Power Research Institute aimed at describing the perspectives of using concentrating solar power (CSP) technologies, and the implications stemming from this choice. It was made during the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE) Electricity Workshop held in Paraguay in May 2010.

Solar Water Heating Fee-for-Service Programmes in the Caribbean Region (2006)

Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on June 16, 2009

This 2006 guidebook, prepared with the support of several institutions (Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP); Blue Moon Fund; Oak Foundation; Green Markets International; Caribbean Solar Technologies Limited; Vitae Civilis Institute) provides electric utility companies substantial information about solar water heating fee-for-service programmes with a view to boost its development on residential, commercial, and industrial applications, without using government subsidies.

Solar Thermal Utilization in Thailand (2008)

Submitted by Hans Craen on May 12, 2009

This 2008 document from the Thai Solar Thermal Association (Stasolar), gives a summary of the state of play of solar thermal in Thailand as well as its future market development. Only recently, the government is giving more attention to solar thermal which has lead to the first solar thermal subsidy programme in 2007.

Perspectives for Concentrating Solar Power in Coastal Areas of Mediterranean Sea

Submitted by Hans Craen on May 4, 2009

This paper looks into the possible applications of CSP on the coastal areas of the mediterranean region. Starting with providing a short overview on the available CSP technologies, the document also looks into what the potential and market perspectives are for this technology.
