American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy: Emerging Technologies Report (2007)

Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on June 14, 2015

This report was prepared by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) in 2007 to analyze solar-assisted water heaters. The report starts with background information on how many solar units/per year and how the systems are installed. It then compares solar-assisted gas and electric water heaters, with statistics that measure: fuel use; efficiency; summer peak, winter peak and total savings; incremental costs; and additional notes on each system. It ends the report with market barriers and future steps for solar water heaters.

Applications of UNEP’s Strategy: Engaging Local Bank for Lending (2014)

Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on February 13, 2015

During an event organized earlier this year by IRENA, the International Renewable Energy Agency,   Myriem Touhami, Program Manager, at the Energy Unit of UNEP's Division of Technology, Industry and Economic, presented the applications of UNEP’s strategy to engage local bank for lending.

The Value of Solar Heating and Cooling (SHC) in Minnesota: Solar Thermal and Minnesota Energy and Climate Goals (2013).

Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on February 13, 2015

This study on the value of solar heating and cooling, commissioned by the Minnesota Department of Commerce, analyses how solar thermal energy can help the state in reaching the climate and energy goals of reducing greenhouse gases emissions by 80% by 2050 and relying on renewable energy to produce 25% of electricity by 2025.

Overview of Solar Thermal System in Japan (2012)

Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on December 3, 2014

This overview was presented by Takahiro Nagata of the Japanese Institute of Energy Economics during a seminar on “The Japanese Market for Heat Generation by Renewable Energies” organized in May 2012 under the German project “Exportinitiative Erneuerbare Energien” supported by the German Ministry for Economy and Energy.

Experiences, Challenges, Barriers, Needs and Expectations in Solar Thermal Energy in Senegal (2014)

Submitted by Francesco Gattiglio on November 7, 2014

This document was presented at the ECOWAS Solar Thermal Energy Capacity Building and Demonstration Programme conference held on 13 and 14 June 2014 in Praia, Cape Verde. The presentation was made by Ababacar Thiam from the Applied Energetics Laboratory of the Polytechnic Superior School of Cheikh Anta Diop University, Senegal.

Solar Industrial Process Heat (2011)

Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on October 18, 2012

This 2011 presentation gives an overview of the industrial process heat market, and outlines the barriers and obstacles to further growth. Although low- and high-temperature solar thermal applications have now long been developed, the presentation notes that medium-temperature solar thermal applications are still at the infancy stage, with research and development only beginning in 2000.

Brewing Beer with Solar Heat (2010)

Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on August 10, 2012

This report gives case studies of two Germany beer breweries - the Hofmühl brewery in Eichstätt and the Hüth Brewiry in Kassel-Baunatal - that have integrated solar thermal energy into their production process. Although there is high potential for solar process heat to be used in industrial applications, the necessary technology remains relatively expensive when operating temperatures exceed 100°C, meaning that its penetration remains low.

Final Report on the Survey on Demand of Solar Heaters in the Institutional Sector - Zimbabwe (2008)

Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on July 19, 2012

This is the final report of the work done under Work Plan 3 of the Austrian Development Agency’s year “Solar Energy Zimbabwe” project to develop Zimbabwe’s Solar Water Heating Sector. WP3 looked to establish detailed knowledge about demand for solar heaters in Zimbabwe’s institutional sector, and the barriers hampering their installation.

Solar Water Heating Systems: A Review of Global Experiences (2010)

Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on May 29, 2012

Prepared jointly by India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP), this report gives an overview of the Solar Water Heating Systems (SWHS) market in India over the last decade, and counterpoints it against broader global developments. After looking at global trends in market development, the document gives summaries of UNDP-GEF and REEEP experiences of SWHS projects. This includes summaries of specific projects over the last five years.

Solar Thermal Energy Technologies for Industrial Applications - India’s Experience (2008)

Submitted by Raquel Ponte Costa on May 7, 2012

Presented by Shirish Garud (The Energy Resources Institute) at the 2008 Global Renewable Energy Forum in Brazil, this presentation outlines the potential of solar thermal technologies for industrial applications in India.
