Solar Heat for Industrital Process Technical Report. State of the Art in the Mediterranean Region

The objective of this technical report is to provide an overview of the state of the art of Solar Heat for Industrial Processes (SHIP), to describe the main technologies existing worldwide, particularly in the Mediterranean, and give recommendations aimed at supporting the spread of this technology. Although there is a very limited penetration of solar technologies in the industrial sector, there is a great untapped potential.

Initial Market Assessment Report North Africa & Middle East (2011)

This report is one of the deliverables of the Global Solar Water Heating Market Transformation and Strengthening Initiative (GSWH Project), co-executed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and funded by the Global Environnemental Fund with co-financing of International Copper Association.

Given the focus on the Mediterranean basin, the Observatoire Méditerranéen de l’Energie (OME) was chosen as the regional partner of this project. The objective of the report is to provide the existing status and overview of solar water heating (SWH) industry in the country with respect to the solar energy applicability for water heating applications, achieved or installed capacities, supportive institutional and policy frameworks.

Building Integration of Concentrating Systems for Solar Cooling Applications (2011)

This document was presented at the 2nd European Conference on Polygeneration (30 March-1 April 2011, Tarragona, Spain) by the researchers D. Chemisana, J. Lopez-Villada, A. Coronas and J. I. Rossel.

It analysis the energy consumption of buildings from Mediterranean countries and the solutions offered by solar cooling and solar concentrator systems. The paper consists of a comparative analysis between two cooling systems: one with evacuated tube collectors and a single-effect absorption chiller, the other with a solar concentrating system and double-effect absorption chiller.

Concentrating Solar Power: Global Outlook 09

This 2009 report looks into the global outlook of concentrating solar power (CSP). The report first looks into the different CSP technologies and makes a comparison based on the advantages and disadvantages. The report also provides an overview of the CSP development by region. For certain countries per region a more detailed assessment is provided. In particular, the potential of the Mediterranean and the MENA region is being assessed.

This document from 2008 gives a comprehensive overview of CSP development in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. The paper first looks into the key drivers and key inhibitors that impact the growth of CSP. Particular attention is given to the cost factor of CSP such as initial investment costs and the operating & maintenance costs.
