Research Priorities for Solar Thermal Energy (2012)

This presentation - given by ESTTP’s Dr. Wim van Helden at the 2012 Renewable District Heating and Cooling Conference - sets out key Research and Development priorities for the solar thermal industry in the next decade. Challenges still remain to reduce investment costs, further increase solar fraction and further develop solar thermal technology.

Solar Heating and Cooling in Austria - Status Report (2009)

This report - presented to the International Energy Agency Solar Heating and Cooling Programme in 2009 - gives an overview of the solar heating and cooling industry in Austria.

This includes an outline of the national and European regulatory environment, and the research programmes used to further technological development in the sector. Austrian public expenditure for energy research is specified as €31,886,023 in 2007, of which €826,852 was directed towards solar heating and cooling.

Solar Water Heaters Development in MENA Region (2009)

This is a presentation from Dr. Mohamad Kordab (Energy Expert of the Damascus University) during the “Solar Thermal Applications workshop” held in Syria. The event was jointly organized by the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE), regional organizations from Syria and Egypt and the German Development Cooperation (GTZ).

The panel consisted of the CEOs of leading solar water heater manufacturers (from right to left): Davinder Kaushal (Inter Solar Systems), D. V. Manjunatha (Emmvee Solar), Sanjay Jinturkar (Sudarshan Saur), Tarun Kapoor (Joint Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy), Hemant Revankar (Bipin Engineers), Gurminder Singh (Racold Solar), Sankar Dev Kunnath Kalam (Photon Solar) and Thyagamandlu Ananth (Nuetech Solar). The discussion was moderated by Jaideep N. Malaviya (standing on the left), CEO of the Solar Thermal Federation of India (STFI).

The Potential of Solar Thermal Technologies in a Sustainable Energy Future (2010)

This study is a deliverable of the IEA Solar Heating & Cooling Programme. Based on the previous studies and results from international R&D cooperation, the declared goal is to present the opportunities linked to solar thermal technologies given their positioning as the fourth largest renewable source of energy.

Solar Cooling Position Paper (2011)

This position paper is a deliverable of the Task 38 “Solar Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration” of the IEA Solar Heating & Cooling Programme. It describes the application of active solar heating and cooling technologies within the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) system of buildings in the context of increasing energy efficiency requirements.

Calls for Intensive R&D on Solar Thermal Air Drying in India

 Solar Air Dreyer” The Sardar Patel Renewable Energy Research Institute (SPRERI) organized a one day workshop on solar thermal drying at the end of March 2010. Its aim was to intensify the efforts of tapping into the national market potential for using solar applications to dry agricultural products.
