Norway: Infrared Welding Machine Completes Automated Polymer Absorber Production

Submitted by Baerbel Epp on February 2, 2013

Aventa’s automated production line for polymer-based solar thermal absorbers is now complete. Austrian machinery supplier FILL has just delivered the last component to the Norwegian company: an infrared welding machine, which is used to join the extruded absorber sheets to the injection-moulded end caps and form a 100 % polymer absorber. According to a press release from the middle of January, the machine has an annual capacity of 40,000 m2 of collector area per shift.

Germany: Solar Thermal Experts Discuss Cost-Cutting Strategies

Submitted by Baerbel Epp on February 23, 2012

Audience at SMEThermal 2012The solar thermal industry is facing major challenges: Costs of storage and collector components have to be reduced even further if large solar plants are to offer investors competitive prices for heating. Hence, 170 industry representatives and scientists from all around the world came together at the international industry conference SMEThermal 2012 in Berlin at the beginning of February 2012 to explore cost-cutting strategies during a round-table discussion.

Germany: Cost reduction, labeling and new materials are topics of SMEThermal 2012

Submitted by Baerbel Epp on November 7, 2011

SMEThermal conference The global breakthrough of solar thermal will depend on how well the industry masters the challenge of cost-effective tank and collector manufacturing. This is the key issue of the 3rd SMEThermal conference on 7 February 2012 in Berlin, Germany. The international event is dedicated exclusively to process optimization, automation, and new materials in the solar thermal industry. The organizer, Berlin-based Solarpraxis, launched the complete programme at the end of October (see attached pdf).

Europe: 2011 Conferences dedicated to Solar Heating and Cooling

Submitted by Baerbel Epp on December 27, 2010

In Europe, only a few conferences focus exclusively on solar heating and cooling in 2011. Most events combine both solar thermal technology and photovoltaics, with two-thirds of the schedule being reserved for solar electricity and only one third for solar thermal. Please check the event calendar for more information about these events. The few events in 2011 that deal only with solar heating and cooling (and have been included in the event calendar, too) are listed in the following:

Austria: Clinched Aluminium-Copper Absorber with omega-form Sheet

Submitted by Baerbel Epp on October 4, 2010

clinched Omega-shape absorber New absorber production process: The so-called Omega absorbers by Austrian company Estec Energiespartechnik Süd consist of coated aluminium plates, harp-type copper pipes and omega-form aluminium sheets. In order to join plate and sheet, the company uses an entirely automated clinching machine developed by Austrian machinery supplier RG Fertigungstechnik.
